I had worked 8 months putting together a decorating conference with three other designers which was going to be held at The Monte Carlo in Las Vegas. We had 40 people registered and 8 Guest Speakers flying in from across the country. The day was here for it to begin when I found out that the Monte Carlo was on FIRE! Yes, the day that our attendees were starting to come into town, the Monte Carlo caught on FIRE!
Now, the Monte Carlo had to displace 5,000 guests along with handle all of the new guests checking in, which included us. Plus, we were also holding our conference there. So we now had to find rooms for our attendances, cocktail party and 3 day conference. The Monte Carlo was great, considering all they were having to deal with and they finally got everyone at the same hotel instead of up and down the strip.
But we still didn’t have any conference space and it was Sunday night at 5:00 pm and the conference was staring Monday morning at 7:00am. Oh, did I mention that this was also one of the busiest weeks for conferences and shows in Las Vegas. There was The World of Concrete, the largest trade show held all year, Surfaces, the largest flooring show in the country, the Miss America Pageant OH and the Furniture Market Week for The Las Vegas World Market which brings in over 50,000 people. Finally at 6:00 pm we found conference space, although not in the same 4 star hotel property, but we were thrilled.
All of our attendees and Speakers were great and we opened the conference with our new theme, “Let the NRI (National Redesign Institute) Conference set your business on FIRE! …And This Is Why We Drink!
