The Real Cost of 800 #’s

I’ve developed a new interior design product which I’m going to be marketing around the country. So instead of using one of my main lines for my current business, I wanted to get a separate line as not to seem unprofessional by having two different business names announced on my voice mail.

I went investigating getting an 800# and thought I found the perfect company,

RingCentral.com. I signed up and paid for the whole year to save a couple bucks and off I went excited about having a real 800 # and had my business cards and announcements printed.

Then the messages started to come in, WOW that was quick. But OH NO, not one of the calls were from interested buyers but Spammers who just hung up or left the line open for minutes. What I found out from Ring Central is that since 800 #’s have been out there for a long time and someone else had the number before, there was a good chance this would happen. Of course they didn’t bother to tell me when I opened my account. So almost all of my minutes each month are used up by Spammers and if I decide to purchase more minutes in hopes that potential buyers and current clients can reach me, there’s a good chance the Spammers will use them. I did register the numbers with the Do Not Call Agency and it hasn’t made a single difference. When I called Ring Central to see what they could do, they offered to give me another number and refund me $ 9.99. OH WOW, another Spammer number. So now I have to have $500 worth of marketing materials reprinted with new numbers…And This Is Why We Drink!
