Big Dog’s beer cheese soup great winter warm-upFrom Las Vegas Cheap Eats Examiner, February 23, 2010 Every time we’ve been to Big Dog’s, no matter which location, someone is enjoying the beer cheese soup. This soup is thick and creamy without the sensation of being loaded with high-fat cream. It appears to be potato-based, with the Wisconsin cheddar for which Big Dog’s is known. A generous sprinkling of cheese on top makes it a meal in itself. We’re told the “secret” ingredient is Big Dog’s own pale ale, brewed on the premises. A cup of this winter warmer is only $4; a bowl, $5. Order it served in a bread bowl for $6, and you’ll get an extra treat: The bread is baked on-site, using leftover grain from making the brew. The beer drinker at the table pronounced the Holy Cow! Original Pale Ale as the best in Vegas. Even for a non-beer drinker, the fragrance of the beer was like a green field in the country, or freshly-cut hay. The beer drinker said: “Very smooth — nice balance.” He said the pale ale was light and refreshing, and he didn’t feel bloated after two, 23-ounce glasses. He also liked the name. Best of all, the beer was only $5.50 for that tall glass. Cheap Eats always likes the service at Big Dog’s and at the Draft House last night, after the dining room was closed, Tamara provided excellent service and good advice about the menu.
